New Media Lisa: How tweet it is…

  • @themarketingguy · 1 year ago
To network with other marketers and bloggers. To keep my finger on the pulse. To engage in conversations that just don't happen locally.
  • Lisa Hoffmann · 1 year ago
Love your point about reaching out to people in other locales. I'm discovering little niches that I would never have known about with online networking. Thanks for stopping by to comment, Jay!

I will add that I twitter to stay on top of industry developments, to get the scoop on new blog posts from bloggers I follow and to expose my collaborative blog to those who might benefit from the information.

What a great collection! Nice job, Lisa. You "give good question." ;)
  • Lisa Hoffmann · 1 year ago
I'm fascinated and impressed by the range of answers here. So glad I asked the question!

Thanks, Lyell. See you at the next #BtynBiz tweetup :)
  • iGoByDoc · 1 year ago
Interesting to see all of these different answers. Honored my response made the list.
  • Stefan Pinto · 1 year ago
@Stefanpinto it was an undiscovered muse. Fueled my creativity. Helped me to start my blog. I also applied for a job there!
  • Lisa Hoffmann · 1 year ago
All the great conversation sparks my creativity too, Stefan. Great, isn't it? Thanks for stopping by to comment.
  • danny BROWN · 1 year ago
What a fantastic cross mix of comments and replies - just goes to show the diversity of the people on Twitter, yet how the same view seems to be the core reason for being on in the first place.

Thanks for sharing this information, Lisa - good to get an overview like this. :)
  • DamienBasile · 1 year ago
Twitter is about the personal connections. Everything you do is seen by everyone that follows you and possibly more depending on who is sharing your words with other people through a variety of mediums- retweet, DM, IM, Email, text message and phone call. Be true to yourself and you never have to worry about how you look or what you have to say. Like attracts like.

Instant Social Networks, like Twitter, facilitate reciprocation almost instantaneously. You have a social collateral bank account that you add or subtract from every time you do/say something there. Choose your words wisely or end up having them choose you.
  • Lisa Hoffmann · 1 year ago
Be yourself...because who else would you be, right? Everything else seems to fall into place after that. Thanks for stopping by to comment, Damien.

I'm on Twitter to meet people, share ideas, and keep learning how it all works.
  • @smithological · 1 year ago
To meet and learn from smart people who have great ideas.
  • Ann Handley · 1 year ago
I feel so shallow... because I'm on Twitter to avoid doing anything else. ; )

Seriously, I agree with a few folks here - to listen, learn, and to share. Pretty simple (but powerful) stuff.
  • Lisa Hoffmann · 1 year ago
Aww, Ann...if you're shallow so am I. It is the ultimate procrastination toy. Yet powerful indeed. Thanks for stopping by to comment!
  • Ben Nesvig · 1 year ago
    To share and to learn.
  • Darryl Parker · 1 year ago
I'm on here to meet great folks like you! And to solve all of the world's problems...
  • Lisa Hoffmann · 1 year ago
Well, thanks, Darryl. I can't promise I'll be smoking cigars any time soon but I do hope to meet you in real time. Maybe we can solve a problem or two together. Thanks for stopping by, my twitter friend.

Fascinating. I'd love to hear more about what success you're finding promoting your cause on twitter. Thanks for stopping by, Virginia.

@seotips2go is on twitter because i want to network with people in my industry, stay connected with other peeps in different niches. Collaborate & set up joint venture partners and build a massive community!
  • Lisa Murphy · 1 year ago
@lisamurphyTO Great way to learn from other digital media experts whom it would be difficult to connect with otherwise!
  • katbron · 1 year ago
because I want to know more about social media. I've learned a lot from you, Chris Brogan and countless others. Sometimes I've learned what shouldn't be in a social setting. I think it is fun to make sense in 140 characters or less. We have become such a "scan" society, that it sometimes is difficult to read a wordy blog - twitter makes it easy to get the condensed version.
  • Lisa Hoffmann · 1 year ago
It is fun, isn't it? I love the challenge. Thanks for chiming in here, Kathy.
  • BarbaraKB · 1 year ago
@BarbaraKB Same as when I joined 3/2006: to learn, be challenged, grow and make good friends.
  • CoryOBrien · 1 year ago
@coryobrien: I'm on Twitter to exchange ideas with thought leaders in almost every field, to make and grow relationships, and because it's fun!
  • cory huff · 1 year ago
@agoodhusband I'm on Twitter because it allows me to connect with other like minded, influential people that I would never be able to get face or phone time with.
  • Deirdre Reid · 1 year ago
@deirdreid I'm on Twitter to learn for both the professional and the personal me, to share things I find interesting, to get to know others who share my interests, and to be part of a stimulating community.
  • Jill · 1 year ago
@jillwhalen: to keep up with industry news, to chat with fellow SEOs, to let others know of things going on with me and my company

@wiselywoven: I am a part of the Twittering community because it levels the field, puts the podium under everyone's feet, and when used well, can foster genuine niche networking. I am nobody, but I brush shoulders with the well known. I have no voice...yet...but slowly, those with ears to hear will find me, and I them. Twitter embodies the open social community that is the larger Web. This is why it works and why I use it. I also believe in Twitter as a business tool. It brings to light that all markets and all human society is founded on conversation. Long live the Cluetrain...Twitter is about the Conversation.
  • Lisa Hoffmann · 1 year ago
I always say twitter is a heck of a barrier breaker. So exciting to be having conversations with people who traditionally would be insulated behind layers of gatekeepers. The best part: none of them would consider you "nobody." We're all learning together.

    Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Track events from people between their podcasts. 2. Experimental marketing for my day job. 3. To find tidbits of interesting stuff not mentioned elsewhere. 4. To interact with podcasters in a way not possible otherwise.
  • Ari Herzog · 1 year ago
Like others, I use Twitter to add value and learn from others' value. To that end, I'm now following everyone on your list. I'm at http://twitter.com/ariherzog
  • Nils Davis (nilsie) · 1 year ago
so far, mostly on Twitter as a listener. Don't have many RL friends here, so my tweets are pretty much general interest when I do them
  • Nils Davis (nilsie) · 1 year ago
Also, I don't tweet about work-related things at all - haven't figured out how to balance "inside the kimono" activities with what my public should hear about.
  • Suzanne · 1 year ago
@suzannetobias I like Twitter for the info, the humor, the community and the daily exercise in writing bright and tight.
  • Lisa Hoffmann · 1 year ago
"Bright and tight." Love it! Now I can consider twittering to be "honing my copywriting skills."

    Thanks, Suzanne!

  • Ryan Squire · 1 year ago
@NBCSquire b/c twitter helps us reach a larger audience or people we know are information seekers, but who have begun to pass over traditional media for their information because we 1. don't provide information that is relevant to their lives, 2. don't provide information in a way that is relevant to their lifestyle, 3. don't allow them the opportunity to be part of the information gathering/disseminating process.
  • Lisa Hoffmann · 1 year ago
Terrific points, Ryan. All goes to the evolution of new media, yes? Traditional media outlets ignore these expectations at their own peril. You're a model for others to follow.

Thanks for stopping by here to add your insights.

To find out what interesting people are doing on the web. I love the idea of seeing new ideas on technology, and how people are incorporating it into their lives.

We're on twitter to connect and genuinely engage people. We like to connect with Dog lovers, twitter doggies, Bloggers, Tech people, all people. People on twitter are some of the smartest around. Our life is better because of our friendships.
Also we are there to answer any dog questions and be there for support.
  • Summer · 1 year ago
I twitter for my business to keep up on my industries and what's happening in CLT. To reach out to clients, customers and communicate with them.

I've twittered privately in the past, just as I blogged in the past, but now my business is pretty much my life, so I don't do that anymore.
  • Cindy Grace · 1 year ago
@fuzzyredrobe I'm on twitter because I love people and I love information. It's the best of both worlds.
